Crowns and Bridges
Crowns and Bridges in Silver Spring, MD
Dental crowns and dental bridges from Dr. Kabasela can replace missing teeth and improve smiles.
Dental crowns – also known as caps – are thin, durable, tooth-colored coverings that make stained, disfigured or damaged teeth look beautiful again. Dental crowns can also be used to restore functioning to implants and bridges, and protect teeth after dental surgery. Dental bridges are artificial tooth replacements that fill in space between two missing teeth.
The Procedure for Dental Crowns
Getting dental crowns takes a couple office visits. First, Dr. Kabasela will take X-rays of your teeth and determine if your roots and jaw bone are ready for a crown. Some patients with advanced tooth decay may need to have a root canal first. Once you’re cleared for dental crowns, this is what happens:
Your teeth are numbed for your comfort.
A small amount of enamel is removed from the surface areas of your teeth to accommodate the dental crowns.
Impressions of your teeth are made and customized dental crowns are developed in about three weeks.
Temporary dental crowns are fitted until your next appointment.
When your dental crowns are ready, Dr. Kabasela will make sure your teeth are ready, and he will permanently affix your new crowns.
The Procedure for Dental Bridges
Getting dental bridges take a couple office visits. First, Dr. Kabasela will take X-rays of your teeth and determine if your roots and jaw bone are ready for a dental bridge.
To accommodate dental bridges, the two anchor teeth that support them (the abutments) are shaped by removing a small amount of enamel from the sides.
Impressions of your teeth are made and a customized dental bridge is developed in about three weeks.
Dr. Kabasela will fit you with a temporary dental bridge until your next visit.
When your dental bridge is ready, Dr. Kabasela will make sure your teeth are prepared to support it before permanently anchoring it in place.
